Baarle-Hertog / Baarle Nassau

(18 Sept. 2010) - The Municipalities of Baarle-Nassau and Baarle-Hertog have reached a compromise on cost sharing for fire security services. Baarle-Hertog will take on around the quarter of the total costs.

The fire brigade of both Baarle will operate for a year as a joint body, as the Belgian and Dutch firefighters will practice together.

Fire prevention has to be jointly managed because of the large differences in legal technical fire prevention standards between the Netherlands and Belgium. For disaster management is also proposed that the Dutch methodology should be adopted; a green light is expected from the Belgian Federal Minister of the Interior.
